MISSIONS

Who has work for you

Bound with the Flight Manual · the missions as the game offers them

The original Elite gave you one mission, from the Navy, after your first sixteen kills. HARMLESS keeps that one and adds more. Five people on five worlds have work for you. Each one is a few jumps farther across the first galaxy than the last, and each gives you a short chain of jobs. When you finish a chain, or fail it, the next person sends word. You hear it first as a rumour on a station board, and then as a message when you dock nearby.

This page shows who has work for you and what each job is. It does not tell you how a job ends. Your own record of what happened is in the game, under COMMANDER'S LOG on the station menu.

When you take a job, the game shows you where to go. The world is marked on the charts. When you arrive, the console tells you where the target is, and the target is marked on your scanner and on your screen. The console tells you what happens at each step.

The route

The five worlds, in order.

The five jobs

Corvin Thale

1. The Grub Ledger

Corvin Thale, the governor at Lave

The governor of Lave lost the export ledger to a smuggler. Recover the canister, then hunt the smuggler down.

The tree grub yield off Lave holds at full quota, but one export ledger canister never arrived. A smuggler has it, and the account will not close without it.

Torvin Adeyemi

2. Friend of the Cause

Torvin Adeyemi, a faction's envoy at Rabedira

An envoy at Rabedira needs a truce paper carried to a neighbour. Then he needs an escort to the meeting itself.

Torvin Adeyemi is glad you found your way to Rabedira, friend of the cause -- truly glad, and grateful before the terms are even spoken.

Ilona Draske

3. The Vetitice Quota

Ilona Draske, the planning director at Vetitice

Pirates hold the lane a shipment must cross at Vetitice. Clear the lane, bring a survey pilot home alive, then carry the manifest on.

We have a quota to meet. Pirates hold the lane the collective's shipment must cross, and the schedule at Vetitice does not bend for them.

Bridget Calloway

4. The Harvest Ledger

Bridget Calloway, the elected port administrator at Xeer

An Anaconda is forging the harvest figures at Xeer. Watch it without firing, then find and destroy the ship that carries the false papers.

Your docking fee is paid and your quota is logged, so now you can listen. I am Bridget Calloway, port administrator of Xeer, and my harvest numbers do not match my manifests.

Ferris Adalwyn

5. Colonel Adalwyn's Convoy

Ferris Adalwyn, a colonel of the state guard at Edle

A colonel at Edle has a manifest to move and a transporter to guard. After that, an Asp is marked for destruction.

One manifest, one Transporter, one Asp Mk II marked for destruction. Carry the first, guard the second, finish the third.

Side jobs

Every station board offers two or three of these. The same world offers the same jobs on every visit.

If you fail

A lost fight does not end a job. Each job has another way to finish. Whatever happens, the next person with work for you still sends word.
